STATE OF PLAY OF THE ESSENTIALS OF A LAPTOP
When buying a laptop , three essential criteria: mobility , autonomy and weight . These characteristics will determine the daily use that you will be able to make of it. It’s up to you to find the right compromise between practicality and expected performance!
Mobility is an indispensable issue when buying a laptop.
How often do you want to transport your laptop and why? What type of use do you make of it? What software do you use? Etc.
These questions allow you to determine the autonomy you need and ideally, the weight not to exceed . Knowing what your laptop will be used for will also be important when choosing its components .
The battery life you need depends on how you want to use your computer.
Autonomy mainly depends on:
- The weight of a laptop can vary between less than 1 kg and 5 kg . It depends of course on its size and the integrated components .
For increased ease of transport , a light and compact computer is ideal , its components are however less powerful. Qualified as an ultraportable , this type of laptop has a screen between 11 and 14 inches, generally the graphics card is integrated into the motherboard, the battery is lighter and its size reduced. The weight of this type of laptop does not exceed 1.5 kg and its thickness is less than 2 cm, to meet transport and space constraints. This type of computer can limit, however, the use to office automation, depending on the quality of the screen and the graphics card.
Conversely, a computer incorporating more efficient components , or simply larger in size , will be heavier. In this case, we are talking about a portable computer rather than a portable one. This is particularly the case for ‘gamer’ type computers which require powerful components: graphics cards, processors. Likewise, the most efficient batteries are often the heaviest.
WHICH LAPTOP FOR WHICH USE?
How you use your laptop will determine the type of computer you should buy. Two types of laptops are on the rise today: ultra-portables that promote mobility and laptops for gamers with more power.
THE ULTRA PORTABLE, IDEAL FOR HIGH MOBILITY
The ultra portable is compact and lightweight to promote mobility . Its design is generally very elaborate. Emphasis is placed on the comfort of autonomy and use . Some ultra portables allow good velocity , good versatility and have good quality screens. Display tiles (technology necessary for the operation of an LCD screen) allow speed and economy. The processor of these laptops is designed to generate low power consumption and generally integrates the graphics solution.
You must have a budget between 200 and 1500 € .
THE GRAPHIC, PERFECT FOR MULTIMEDIA WORKS AND GAMERS
For these laptops, the focus is obviously on the graphics chipset (electronic components) . The objective is to be able to benefit from an optimal visualization of the images , for photo retouching, video editing, DVD and Bluray playback and the execution of video games. Laptops for gamers will generally have superb ergonomics , better noise and temperature management , HD screen quality .
You can get this type of laptop for a budget between 1000 and 4000 € .
THE HYBRID PORTABLE, PRACTICAL AND INCREASINGLY POWERFUL
The hybrid laptop is halfway between a tablet and a computer, its screen and keyboard can detach .
Very light and compact , it allows a great autonomy , being able to go until 18h in particular for those which have a keyboard with independent battery . Its mobility is increased due to its weight limited to 1.5 kg . However, its memory is generally limited, it is between 4 and 256 GB, but it is possible to add a memory card . It also allows you to benefit from good ergonomics and touch .
